So this is the famed Johnny Lightning, huh? I can see where they got their reputation, that 300 looks very good. Somewhat simple, but a good kind of simple. And the livery rules, I agree; again, simple in concept, but that exact concept has been done with zest and quality.
Also, you may have heard of me from another site. Let's just say that I'm... the "Meat Driver". ;)
I agree with your take on the car, but Johnny Lightning made lot of castings with lot of styles. Search eBay for "Johnny Lightning" sometimes to see what I mean. You could also click on the link on the right: Johnny Lightning, under "Brands". I have like tenth of what I have listed on there, but there are some cool ones like Employee-only truck, Toyota Land Cruiser, etc.
No, I'm more of an Alexandria Meat kind of guy; scrawny, wearing a pair of glasses and not much "Kinniku" in my body, haha!
But yes, I am sure that I have yet to see JL's best work, but then again I have the brand's lack of exposure in my country to blame for that, sadly. Much like Tomica or Greenlight, only the most die-hard collectors know about JL...

I am of the impression that the Johnny Lightning was mostly unknown outside North America? Their releases focused mostly on domestic cars & media, too.
From what I have gathered, they are virtually unknown in my own country. I am not sure what is their reputation on other areas of Europe, but I can say that only a select few must know the brand here. Most of the American scale model car scene is represented by Mattel and one or two Greenlight collector's stores
Well, maybe the new rebirth of Johnny Lightning will allow non-'Muricans to experience the legacy of JL's cars, but I somehow doubt that will happen...
I couldn't agree with you more. Since the company that lead their operations now(Auto World) isn't exactly competing with the likes of Tomicas & Hot Wheels overseas, I couldn't really imagine JL doing any better outside the domestic market.

That aside, it true, Auto World has next to no mediatic exposure in Europe, so I am not betting on a sudden Europe invasion from them, much less JL. The most likely thing to happen is AW bringing back JL for American markets and profit from the brand's popularity there, not much more than that...

On the JL, I think the goal is to "recycle" their past releases with very little cost to the company to earn little profit, then see where it takes them. It's little early, but the game plan should come into view in the upcoming year. :)
That's rather odd... well, at least that problem got sorted out quickly, so no harm done there.
Hmm... could be. Rehash old castings with new packages, or with new styles, that is one strategy AW could employ. But we do have to wait and see, I personally think that they will release old castings, but not without some major quality improvements first.
Precisely, those were the ones I saw as well, which is why I believe that will not be just a rebirth for nostalgia's sake alone... The improvements are there, such as better paintjob finishes and additional detailing, that cannot be denied.
Well, casting is quite dated at this point, so it remains to be seen how much success they could achieve with those. I do wish them luck, as I am fan of both JL & Auto World.

There's been pictures that seem to indicate better detailing on these new releases? We won't know for sure quite yet, but it's a good sign!
