RAI'S Nissan Fairlady Z432 S30 Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Express Way Patrol Unit Vehicle vs. Kyosho

RAI'S Nissan Fairlady Z432 S30 Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department High Speed Unit Vehicle

This 240Z was just recently released in Japan by RAI'S.  I can't believe it, but this makes my fifth RAI'S cars in as many months.  Before these five police cars(or "patrol cars" in Japanese), I had zero RAI'S.  Go figure.

Another car I received around the same time, believe it or not is the original Kyosho version!  Andy from Epic Collage was shedding some of his 1/64 cars in his move to larger scale diecasts, this was one of the cars he offered his friends at some great prices.

Thanks to Andy, here's a little side-by-side:

Back in October, when I discovered how RAI'S cars were actually tweaked version of the Kyoshos, I posted a pic of the RAI'S display bases actually baring the "Kyosho" logo.  This time, I observed the same, except the logo was not found on the Kyosho car's display base.  Just on the bottom of the RAI'S.  Go figure.  *shrug*

*Wipes drool* This is the last of the RAI'S 1/64 police car series for 2015 that I'm aware of.

It cost me pretty penny, but these guys are limited to 800 units, so you don't have lot of option.  Out of these four JDM sports police cars in the series, this one was the most expensive at roughly $36(shipped).  Seller on Rakuten charged me Japanese sales tax + PayPal fee(WTF....), but with so few quantity out there for sale, what are you gonna do....  :(

RAI'S Nissan Skyline GT-R BNR32 Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Express Way Patrol Unit Vehicle

Photo is that of Ibaragi Prefecture Police, not Tokyo Metropolitan, but please ignore that.  Thanks. Here's my third Kyosho-based RAI'S police car:

RAI'S Nissan Skyline GT-R BNR34 Saitama Prefecture Express Way Patrol Unit Vehicle

rai's nissan skyline gt-r r34

My only second RAI'S car.....  But I discovered something I didn't know about these cars before.  In my RX-8 post, I mentioned how the production was limited to just 800 vehicles.  So is this Skyline.  Odd though, right?  In the post, I also touched on how RAI'S advertise how they are 1/43 makers.  How do they make 800 of just one casting & expect to make any profit?

In my head, I assumed that this was a Greenlight tactic.  Greenlight make one Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor casting.......  Then they put 100 different police department names & paint job on them to sell them in hundred different releases, even as taxis!

I was wrong.  It's on the bottom, see for yourself:

I'm not gonna lie, I was very surprised!  RAI'S 1/64 cars are based on Kyosho castings! I still like RAI'S a lot.  I guess you could say that, they are like Kyosho, but with extra detail, or effort.  I'm not a police car collector, but they are reall cool every now & then.  Pics.  :)
