**This is a updated post: Images in this post were hijacked by Photobucket image hosting site, so pictures have been re-uploaded with quick revamp(Photobucket will not release the original images w/o ransom).
Also, keep in mind: While this Kyosho was a blind box item, MSRP of these blind boxes were ¥525(roughly $5, U.S.). As some of you know, Tomica Limited Vintage NEO version are about to hit the streets at MSRP of........ ¥8,000(over $70, U.S.).
Granted, TLV version will have removable hoods, they are not blind box items(you don't know which specific model's inside blind boxes), but it'll be interesting to see how much improvement we'll see on TLV version over the Kyosho!
This is a special race car, especially to JDM fans. I've never followed any racing series, but from what I understand, this has been the only Japanese car ever to win the 24 hours of Le Mans, and the rotary engine was banned after this race.
Back then, I thought the paint job on this car was pretty ridiculous. It could be that my fashion sense isn't great, or the 'look' was way ahead of its time. Probably little bit of both. Today, combine its radical looks with the historic win, it's a really popular car. Happens to be one of the best screamers out there, and that doesn't hurt:
In front of the 1/18 version of this Le Mans Champ which was added to the fleet recently(full post coming):
Update: Adding my grading on this car.
Minicar Grade
Value - 10
For me, this car is a "10" in value, whether the $24 I paid, or $5 blind boxes cost. It's so neat, so rare.
Quality - 8
For the blind box price, I'd give it a "20". lol For the $24 I paid, it's still actually really good. Deduct a point for the missing rooftop decal, cleaner detailing of the exhaust area on the right side would've bumped it up to a ten, but still very nicely done.
Allure - 10
This 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans winner has been recreated in 1/64 scale, very faithfully. Beautiful diecast of a historical beauty.... and with the JDM vibe. It's a easy "ten".
